Hello all,

Might be a bit of a vague one but our options are a little limited.

Basically we were hoping to use Trello with our Jira Service Management set up so we could tie some tickets together in wider project plans. However, we've been blocked from using Trello by our IT Team, so we were wondering if there is a similar functionality within Jira Service Management?

We're also to add deadlines/SLAs in the back end for our team. Is there a way to do this? I know there's a due date feature in the front end for customers to use but we're looking to set our deadlines for some work.

Let me know if anyone has any more questions.

Kind regards

Kieran

Hello Trudy,

Thanks for your help with this, we've activated the calendar view now so that should cover the deadline query from this post.

In terms of the project plan question, we're thinking trying to present tickets in this view similar to how you can do with Trello. (My colleagues have used Trello previously although it is also something I don't have a lot of experience in myself):

Also by Jira I do just mean Jira Service Management. Apologises we just call it Jira internally as it is the only product that we use from Jira!

Kind regards

Hello @Kieran McCormick

Welcome to the Atlassian community.

Due to your question being a bit vague, our answers might be a bit vague.

I'll address your second question first.

What does it mean to you to set a deadline for work?

You can definitely add a Due date field to the issues in Jira Service Management, separate from the SLAs you define. Setting the Due date by itself doesn't add any functionality like reminders when the due date approaches. There is a Views feature being rolled out for JSM that includes a board and a calendar.

The Calendar option would be populated if you start using the Due date field.

Now to your first question.

tie some tickets together in wider project plans.

That depends on what functionality you hope to use for your "wider project plans". Can you provide more information about that? (I have only a cursory knowledge of Trello functionality.)

Do you only have a license for JSM, or do you also have a license for Jira. "Jira" (by just that simple name) is a separate product from JSM.

Jira has functionality geared more towards organizing and managing work for projects vs. support oriented work. It has its own board architecture for Kanban and Scrum methodologies, reports to support those methodologies, and other related functionality. JSM and Jira can coexist in the same instance/site, and information between JSM and Jira projects can be linked. Your users who have only Customer access in JSM would not be able to access the data in the Jira projects.

In terms of the project plan question,

The Jira Service Management project includes a Board option in the Views feature. That presentation is similar to Trello.

Given that you have only JSM, you would be limited to using the JSM project features for your "project plans". The use case for JSM is more oriented to customer support and incident management, so it doesn't have many features that are geared towards project management.

Or, you can look at adding the Jira product to your environment to get the additional features if includes, like Scrum and Kanban board and reports and Timelines. These are features that are not available in JSM. Here are some resources to help you get an overview of what Jira (a.k.a. Jira Software) has to offer.

That would be a separate/additional cost if you wanted to use more than a Free subscription.
