Automations

Jeff Haws December 10, 2024

I need a good video to show me how branching works in automation.

I want to create an automation based on the create issue trigger that will modify the summary of the issue based on the issue type. I "think" the answer is branching but the visuals in jira automation are not making sense to me...

Hi @Jeff Haws , usually for branching rules they're used to perform an action on related issues, like subtasks, or linked issues.

Based off the description of what you're trying to create it sounds like this to me,

This makes sense to me. I have already gotten this far.

What I do not understand is the Jira visualization of branch and nested IF statements. Hence, I am looking for a video to help me understand it. As someone who is familiar with coding, I just don't get it. Hence looking for a best recommendation for a tutorial/video about how this works in Jira.

For my use case, I want a single automation to check the issue type and then modify the summary for the issue type. Is it a bunch of IF statement? Or a branch for each issue type? When a branch ends where does the flow go? EXIT or back to where it branched?
