Auto assign ticket/Issue type

Pedro Valencia June 21, 2022

Hi Everyone! My first time here inherited this program and just trying to learn my way around.
Essentially I'm tasked with creating a ticket/issue request page. I have the page made and options places, but now I need help assigning the tickets to certain people.

Request/ticket option 1: assign to Bob, Report to Sally
Request/ticket option 2: assign to Kelly, report to Jim
Request/ticket option 3: assign to Jim, report to Bob

The issue type for all 3 is "Submit a request or incident"

Any insight or help would be a life saver. Thank you!

@Pedro Valencia Welcome to the Atlassian community.

If they all use their own request type you can simply add the assignee field to the request type and assign the issue to Bob, Kelly or Kim when the issue is created.  If you are using a single request type which it sounds like from the description above you can use automation to set the assignee.  You will need a field value to on the issue that you can use to determine who should be the assignee.  Do you have a field that can help you determine who the assignee should be?

You also had report to, is this someone who needs to be added as a watcher on the issue?

@Pedro Valencia -

Welcome to the community.  To supplement what @Brant Schroeder recommended, here are the user guide on Automation for Jira (which comes with the Cloud subscription) - please take a look:

https://support.atlassian.com/cloud-automation/docs/jira-cloud-automation/

There is also a template library which you can used and play with to achieve different business activities needs -

https://www.atlassian.com/software/jira/automation-template-library#/rule-list?systemLabelId=all&page=1&pageSize=20&sortKey=name&sortOrder=ASC

Hope this helps.
