Hi everyone, quick question. Reviewing the material for Assets Discovery, it looks like even when using agents there must be a network line of sight to the scanning server. Is that correct?
Are there any mechanisms in place to support scanning remote / roaming assets such as laptops being used at home which are rarely connected to VPN?
Thanks!
Jason M.
@Jason.Meltz Welcome to the Atlassian community
You would need to setup agents that would regularly scan and hopefully catch the assets when they connect.
@Brant Schroeder Thanks!
Any idea if improved ability for scanning roaming assets is in the roadmap?

Hi @Brant Schroeder to confirm - the agent for remove "off network" devices today only works for Windows machines, correct? Thanks!

In comparison to other asset solutions, it is apparent that the discovery part is lacking considerably. Rationale behind this is that asset initiatives tend to fail without auto discovery and scheduled check in. Having an IP network scanner? Limited value for remote work setup and cloud services. Development of InTune, AWS, Azure integrations should be expedited in order for Assets to be a viable asset mgmt solution. The cloud integrations would trigger more customers to change their ITSM tool to JSM.
