📣 Updated project settings navigation in Jira Service Management

Hi Community!

We’re happy to announce that we will commence the rollout of our updated project settings navigation in Jira Service Management on October 14th. The new navigation makes it easier to scan and find what you’re looking for, and aligns more closely with other Jira projects. Over the coming weeks, you’ll start seeing the updates to the project settings navigation in both company-managed and team-managed projects.

Learnings from EAP

A big shout-out to our early access program (EAP) participants who over the last couple of months requested access to, and explored the updated navigation. The extremely valuable feedback these participants provided has helped us to:

  • understand our customers' different preferences regarding the ordering of items in the navigation

  • identify and fix some bugs

  • validate and refine the changes to ensure the navigation updates meet the needs of customers and partners.

The changes

To explore the updates, all you’ll need to do is go to your company-managed or team-managed service project’s Project settings, then browse the updated navigation items on the left.

You’ll notice we’ve made several changes that we are confident will lead to increased efficiency and a better overall experience for admins:

  • Related items are now in groups â€“ considerably reducing the number of items displayed upon landing in project settings. These groups can be expanded and collapsed as required, allowing you to hide items and focus on the task at hand.

  • Clearer labels for some items â€“ give a better indication of what to expect on pages. And the labels of items are now the same in team-managed and company-managed projects.

  • Consistency in layout and patterns â€“ that align across different Jira projects, meaning Jira users will have a similar experience whether they’re using Jira or Jira Service Management.

While some labels and locations of items might have changed, we haven’t changed what’s on the settings screens themselves, so for now, how you update your settings stays the same.

Give it a try and let us know what you think. We hope you’ll agree with majority of our EAP participants that this is a positive step towards improving our navigation and making it easier to find the settings you’re looking for. You can drop any questions or feedback here in response to this post and we’ll get back to you!

Kind regards,

Anna Chuang

This looks really great, as the current list is long and uncategorized.

Has there been any discussion about making the project settings searchable like you can at the systems level?

Hi @Anna

Thanks for the update,

The new project settings navigation sounds like a great improvement for admins. I'm excited to try out the updated features and see how the grouping and clearer labels streamline things. I appreciate the effort to make Jira more consistent and efficient.

Thanks, @Anna . If there's a corresponding Jira request for this we could follow, post it here so we can follow along/comment there.

It's going to take time to get used to this, after so many years of working with the old navigation, but this seems like an improvement overall.

Hi @Anna ! I saw this yesterday and previously and was excited! However, today it is back to the old layout and it has been basically toggling back and forth between the old and new layout randomly for me and my project admin. I wonder if there is a bug? I could not find an existing one in JAC.

It's a little confusing since a lot of the support articles that tell you to navigate somewhere in the project settings have been updated for the new layout and now it's hard to follow those when the old layout shows back up again.

@Anna I have also noticed this today as well. I am in our standard IT JSM project and noticed the settings are reverted back to the old UI. Yesterday it was the new UI and today something changed.

FYI:

@Harrison Ponce @Adam Janecke Apologies for the frustrating experience you’ve had with the project settings navigation since Friday. Our team found a bug that’s impacting some projects because of the recent navigation update, which is why we had to temporarily disable it. Rest assured, we’re on it and expect to have everything back up and running by tomorrow after we merge the necessary changes.

Thanks for the update, @Anna ! Do you have a link to the JAC bug so I can watch for when it is fixed? Searched for one but couldn't fine one :/

@Harrison Ponce It's now been fixed and you should be able to see the updated navigation in your project settings.

Hi @Anna

I still do not see the fix in place for our IT JSM Company Managed project, is it slowly rolling out or do I need to do something to see the change?
