New reporting capabilities for Assets in Jira Service Management - early access

Hi, Atlassian Community!

We are excited to announce an early access program for new reporting functionality for Assets in Jira Service Management. We know that you need the ability to report out on your CMDB data, so we are thrilled to invite you to be the first to test out asset reporting and share your feedback with our team.

What is asset reporting?

The new capabilities allow you to critically analyze your asset data, power better decision-making, and report out easily. This functionality will only be available for Jira and site admins. Today, asset reporting takes the form of a read-only dashboard, and we will continue making improvements as we obtain feedback and data from the EAP.

Why sign up for the early access program?

By signing up for the early access program, you’ll be among the first to get access to this feature and the first to receive improvements as we roll them out. Your feedback is extremely valuable to us - the main goal of this program is to make sure this feature meets your needs. We appreciate any and all feedback, and if you're prepared to chat with us, better still! Let us know your experience over the duration of the program, what worked well, and what could be improved.

How do I sign up?

You can sign up for the program here. Once you sign up, we'll check your eligibility, and accordingly enable the functionality for your site.

Thanks for your interest in guiding the future of our product!

Sign up to try asset reporting.

Great news - signed up! We've recently rolled out internal asset management and I think this could be quite useful to our asset management team. 🙂

Hi @amandagit - Great news. Is this part of standard filters and dashboards or Atlassian Analytics?

While I am thrilled of the news that the new reporting will be coming for assets, limiting who has access to it to Jira and site admins defeats the purpose as often your asset managers are not Jira or site admins.

This may be a temporary thing but I'd love to see this reporting go available to asset admins/project admins for JSM projects. Otherwise we create more work for admins having to share it (I understand it is a two second job but it is something additional to schedule regular access or disturbances ad-hoc) or we have to then provide additional levels of access to individuals that without this do not warrant that level.

Are you able to provide some feedback on this point @amandagit

@Muhammad Fahad this is not part of the Jira Dashboards or standard filters.

@Dan Tombs we understand that restricting it to Jira admins or site-admins may cause certain problems.

Currently, if you have access to Assets Dashboard, it will let you report on all Assets data stored on your site. Restricting the access to only Jira or site admin ensures that some of the confidential Assets data is not being accessed by other users.

Rest assured our team is working to solve this problem and ensure that the Assets Dashboard can be accessed by non-admins also.

Will this work with third party apps like intune connect that pull information from Intune into the Assets module?

Very interested.  We've got some add-in products that will require Assets dashboards, so very excited to see this in our instance!  (I did sign up for the EAP).

@amandagit Hello,  I signed up to be in the EAP last week, any expectation of when will it become available for our instance?

Our goal (use case) to be able to eventually socialize particular reporting to business Product Owners. (We're looking at using a plug-in to enable sending Assets tables (objects) to PowerBI but the native result is not what was expected, instead of the same tables being visible, they are hidden in "Metadata" tables as options. Really ugly. It's due to the default API as I understand.)

Thank you for the opportunity to explore this option!

@amandagit Thanks for enabling our Assets Dashboard reporting.  For a given Object Type (table), we want to report upon all entries or a subset of entries.

It appears one must select a single record to report on. But, I've tried to specify a Object Type's Status Attribute (which contains multiple values (Active, In-Service, Damaged, etc) but it does not provide options for the Attribute Value option.

Is it possible to accomplish such types of reporting using the Dashboard at this time?

Thanks!

When can we expect early access to be rolled out?  My leadership would love to start using this.

@Robert Ogden , our got deployed last night.  The initial reporting engine is pretty disappointing.  There's no capability of editing or adding reports, so you're kind of stuck with a few reports on a dashboard that you can throw queries at.  The reports aren't really directed to Asset management, but are rather generic.  Hopefully they beef this up pretty quickly, but right now, you'll probably be pretty disappointed if you are looking for capabilities.

@Chris Tetzlaff , is this what you're trying to do?  Here, I'm pulling very specific Object records out of the schema.  The results are basically what I can see from the Assets interface, but you can get pretty specific with your queries.

@Eric Krueger _StrataCom_ Inc_ Thank you so much for letting me know and I am crossing my fingers that they do it sooner than later regarding adding either the ability to customize reports or give us more out of the box.  We are currently using a third party add in to pull Intune data into our asset module - testing in our sandbox environment and leadership is looking to see what else we do.  I myself have experience as IT Asset Manager and the types of reporting that are available in other applications so it will be interesting to see what Atlassian has planned.

But again thank you so much for the information.

@Eric Krueger _StrataCom_ Inc_  Thank you for your feedback. Our first milestone is focused on launching a read-only OOTB dashboard with global and chart-level filters. We believe this will benefit our customers and address their main needs.

We look forward to introducing further features, including report downloading and scheduling, within the next few months, followed by additional enhancements.

I'm eager to better understand your current unsolved use cases. Please feel free to book a Zoom session with me using this Calendly link or reach out to me directly at rbansal@atlassian.com

Your insights will be invaluable in helping us improve and evolve this functionality.

Thanks

@Rishabh Bansal can you let me know when I can expect to have the reporting feature implemented in both my environments?  I added the updated environments to the request last week and still haven't seen anything.

Hi ,

we are a JSM Premium customer and have been inscribed for this EAP since quite some time before it was announced to go live.

Then weeks ago Atlassian communicated they would role it out to ALL organizations inscribed to the EAP 'in the coming weeks'.

Weeks have past, with zero updates. Atlassian doesn't seem to meet it's own deadlines.

Please shed some light on why it's taking longer than expected and how much more delay we can expect.

I had counted on having this available to help my business on compliance reports and audits in Q1 or Q2 2024. To me now, Q1 seems very unlikely, Q2 doubtful.

Please advise your customers so they can advice their businesses. A product with no reliable feature updates is an unreliable product.

Hi Robert and Lothar
We had an issue which our team is working to fix on priority due to which the rollout to EAP customers has slowed down. Once fixed, we'll add your instances to our EAP.

Hi Rishabh,

We are very interested in the reporting feature, have applied to join the EAP however we don't seem to have had a response. Is this something you can check?

Best regards,

Stephen
