Assets for Jira Service Management cloud will have a new limit of 120 attributes per object type

Hello Atlassian Community,

We have an important update to share regarding limits in Assets for Jira Service Management cloud.

At present an object type in Assets for Jira Service Management can have an unbounded number of attributes. After 30th of September 2024 we will be introducing a new limit of 120 attributes per object type (which also includes any attributes inherited from a parent object). This is part of our effort to offer a more scalable, performant and reliable experience as we make major enhancements to the underlying platform that powers Assets. We believe this new limit will be sufficient for the vast majority of use cases in which Assets is utilised.

For the few customers with any existing object types that already have more attributes than this new limit, we are asking these customers to please reduce these numbers down to no greater than 150 per object type before 30th of September 2024. If you are one of these customers we’ll be reaching out to you to see if we can help in any way.

By making these changes we can ensure your site can begin to utilise our improved Assets platform when it is completed and reap the vastly improved the scalability, performance and reliability it will offer. We’ll be announcing more about this soon.

We believe this change will have little to no impact on most customers. As always please reach out to us if you have any concerns or feedback.

All the best,

Justin King
Senior Product Manager, Jira Service Management

Maybe just a suggestion, can Atlassian start to have a service limits page for each area?

Communication in Bugs, Community articles, Knowledge Base articles... It's hard to keep track of all the various limits that are also sometimes unexpected!

Hi @Tim Eddelbüttel

Absolutely, good suggestion! We have this page for existing limits but we'll update this with "upcoming limits" to make this clearer.

Seconding the suggestion from @Tim Eddelbüttel . No customer should have to scour the community pages "at random" hoping to find up-to-date information on product limitations there. So the documentation should be kept up to date 😉

Ok, so 120 attributes per object type is the new "hard limit".

However, the article below mentions 35 attributes per object type as being a "soft limit" of sorts ("We strongly recommend that you stay within these guidelines to reduce any potential performance or reliability issues"):

https://support.atlassian.com/jira-service-management-cloud/docs/recommended-data-structure-for-an-assets-schema/

My question:

How does this update affect the "soft limit" of 35 attributes? It remains in place? Adjusted? Gone?

Thank you! :)

I have the same question as @WG

How does this update affect the "soft limit" of 35 attributes? It remains in place? Adjusted? Gone?
