Is it possible to create a Jira issue from an external site

Atif Jung
November 18, 2019

We have an external site from which we would like to create a Jira issue with pre-populated fields. This would be achieved by clicking a button on the external site which would take the user to Jira, with fields pre-populated from fields in the external site. Hope this makes sense.

Thanks in advance.

@Atif Jung

Hi Atif

i think there a several options you could take into account

1. Jira Issue Collector

helps you to embed a Jira form into your own web site.

https://confluence.atlassian.com/adminjiracloud/using-the-issue-collector-776636529.html

2. Rest API

You could use the REST API to create an issue, see https://developer.atlassian.com/server/jira/platform/jira-rest-api-examples/

The only thing you would need to handle in your program is that the user gets redirected to jira after the issue had been created. Having that said, how should users using the external website authenticate against Jira )or are you planning to allow anonymous access)?

Cheers

Kurt
