Pro-tip: reordering statuses in the status field dropdown

Hi everyone,

A few of you have asked us is we could add the ability to reorder statuses in this dropdown:

Screenshot 2023-07-18 at 15.07.32.png

It never got to the top of the list. But today we discovered there was some kind of power Jira ninja move to make it work!

Here it is:

You need to add the "opsbar-sequence" property to each workflow transition (not the status), with a value which is a multiple of 10 (10, 20, 30, etc.)

Good tip, thank you! @Tanguy Crusson - Is that One-pager Confluence link column available in JPD? Been looking for it... 🙏

@Adam Cole yep it's really just a hyperlink field.

@Tanguy Crusson Ha, ok -- missed that FAQ, thank you! Now the debate to use that or the native templates you all created...

@Adam Cole cool - we use both. Confluence when there's going to be a lot of back and forth in inline comments, the template in JPD for the rest

Great tip and super timely, I was literally just working on consolidating statuses across several projects using the workflow status.

How long does it take for a workflow updated to be reflected in the views, @Tanguy Crusson ? I updated a workflow with the suggested parameters yesterday, but in the view, the order is unchanged, even after refreshing browser and logging out and into Atlassian again.

The order of the statuses in workflow worked well for me, but it doesn't get reflected in table views when sorting. Does anyone has some additional tips how to fix this part?

Having the same issue as mentioned by @Jens Godat above: I configured the opsbar-sequence property but the changes are not visible in the dropdown.

How long does it take to be updated?

Didn't work for me. I ended up adding numbers in front of the status name and that worked.

Same here - I added numbers after reading this and that fixed the sort order! Thanks Tiia for the tip!

Found the issue: You have to add the "opsbar-sequence" to the transition and not to the status.

@Jonas Thank you! That detail should be emphasized in the instructions, it's not intuitive that this is a transition property rather than on the actual status.

Edit: Disregard, I added properties to the transition and it's still not sorting correctly.

This doesn’t work - at least not anymore.

@Tanguy Crusson It was my user error - I missed that it had to be applied to the transition, not the status itself.

@Tanguy Crusson - this is useful thank you. Curious if there is a similar trick for controlling the sort order of the values as they appear in the column. So in your view (1:10 in your original video) I would love the order to not follow the alphabetical order by something like the obsbar-sequence order.

//I suppose like others have suggested I could put a number in the actual state name.

I have managed to get the order working in this worker in the status drop down but when I initially read this post I was assuming that this would also be applied to the 'sort' option. i.e. if I sort a table of ideas by this column, they should appear in this order, which doesn't seem to be the case?
