Attachments drop down menu field is too small

On many Jira cards I work on, users add multiple files to the card. 

Many of these files have virtually identical file names, with just a different version number at the end. 

But if you drag a file onto a card to save it there and then try to reference the file link in a comment, the text field that displays all of the card’s file attachments cuts off after about 20 characters. 

As a result, choosing the right file from the drop down options is a guessing game. 

As file sharing is one of Jira’s key uses in my organisation, this is a really miserable user experience.

I’ve raised this problem before in a JIRA community board and received no responses. 

I get the sense that Atlassian is an organisation where developers and product owners see other developers and agile experts as their users. 

So basic user tasks like attaching files to comments in Jira can be very broken experiences and nobody at Atlassian notices or cares.

Jira is an issue-tracker, not a document/file tracker.  I would recommend

• Improving your naming schemes so that files have more useful human names
• Putting your file tracking into a file tracker, and linking it to issues

There are some good apps in the marketplace that can help you with that
