Manage and optimize your Atlassian landscape with Portfolio insights Early Access Program

Hello Atlassian Community

I'm Akshay Johri, a Product Manager on the Atlassian Cloud Transition team. We're pleased to announce the launch of our Portfolio insights Early Access Program (EAP), a significant step in our ongoing effort to help you enhance your Atlassian experience across Cloud and Data Center environments.

What is Portfolio insights?

Portfolio insights is a new feature within Atlassian Administration. It offers a centralized view of your Atlassian tooling landscape, enabling you to discover, assess, and optimize your entire Atlassian portfolio across Cloud and Data Center environments. Whether you're planning a cloud migration, optimizing your Data Center environment, or managing a complex hybrid setup, Portfolio insights provides the tools and insights you need to make informed decisions and drive efficiency across your organization.

By centralizing this critical information, Portfolio insights empowers IT leaders, administrators, and migration planners to:

  • Reduce the time and effort required for portfolio assessment and migration planning

  • Improve control and governance by maintaining a clear inventory of all Atlassian products in use

  • Identify opportunities for cost savings and performance improvements

  • Streamline management of multi-instance and multi-product environments

Key components of Portfolio insights EAP

Here’s what you can expect.

Add and discover products

Portfolio insights provides a comprehensive view of all your Atlassian products by allowing you to:

  • Add and maintain connections between on-premises and cloud products, creating a unified Atlassian landscape.

  • Automatically discover associated products through license data and app links. Review and add relevant detected products to your portfolio.

These steps enable strategic planning and uncover consolidation opportunities within your organization.

View the cloud readiness of your Jira instances

Analyze and compare your data against Atlassian guardrails or best practices to understand the cloud readiness of your Jira instance in the areas most critical for migrations:

  • Migration time

  • Users and groups

  • Issue content limits

  • Cloud health

The cloud readiness assessment highlights problems with your data that can affect the migration itself or your future setup in Atlassian Cloud. With detailed recommendations on how to optimize the number of issues, users, or custom fields, you can prepare your instance for a future migration, or just make it run smoother now.

And yes, we’ll also find all those issues where you stack thousands of attachments and even help you optimize them with Jira automation.

Get insights into health and performance of your Jira instance (coming soon!)

Portfolio insights will soon help you monitor and optimize the health of your Jira Data Center instances. You'll receive proactive recommendations to maintain optimal instance health by focusing on:

  • Health score analysis: Assess the overall health of your Jira instance with a comprehensive health score and get recommendations to improve instance performance.

  • Performance metrics: Monitor key performance indicators to ensure optimal system operation.

  • Data optimization: Measure your data against guardrails to optimize Jira entities like issues, groups, projects, and custom fields for improved efficiency.

These insights will empower you to enhance your on-premise setup, ensuring a robust and efficient environment.

Join our EAP for Portfolio insights

Our EAP is being rolled out in three initial phases, with more to come in 2025:

  • Phase 1 Assessments (available Now): Analyze your data against Atlassian guardrails and receive clear, actionable insights and recommendations to prepare for your Jira migration. Read more in our announcement.

  • Phase 2 Footprint detection (available December 4, 2024): Add and detect products to manage and optimize your entire Atlassian portfolio across the Cloud and Data Center.

  • Phase 3 Data Center health and performance (coming January 2025): Monitor and optimize the health of your Jira Data Center instance to ensure it runs smoothly and efficiently.

By participating in the EAP, you'll have exclusive access to all phases as they become available. Your involvement will help shape Portfolio insights' future, ensuring it meets the diverse needs of our community.

Looking ahead: Our vision for Portfolio insights

This EAP is a step towards our future vision for Portfolio insights, which aims to transform how organizations manage and optimize their Atlassian tools across their entire organization. By providing data-driven insights, Portfolio insights empowers informed decision-making, driving efficiency and innovation. Additionally, it acts as a catalyst for strategic growth, offering the intelligence needed to navigate complex transitions and optimizations. Our focus includes:

  • Ongoing optimization: Continually improving how your teams use Atlassian tools.

  • Comprehensive insights: Providing a detailed understanding of tool usage and performance.

  • Future capabilities: Extending our offerings to include more Atlassian products, apps, and even external applications for a holistic productivity suite.

Thank you for your continued support and for being an integral part of the Atlassian Community. Together, we're working towards more efficient and optimized Atlassian experiences.

Hi @Akshay Johri . Is this EAP open to organizations that are fully cloud-based? The portfolio insights seem like they could be helpful for cloud customers looking to better view their technical landscape at a glance.

Hi @Josh Yes! Even the cloud only organisations would benefit from the EAP as they can see their product landscape. (It helps looking at the complete picture, to find instances that can be merged or may not be in use. In future customers can expect recommendations around how to improve the performance etc).
