Bundled Release track now delivering changes in just 1 Day!

Hello Atlassian Community!

I'm Alex, a product manager on Atlassian’s Enterprise Cloud team.

Exciting news! Starting with the September monthly bundled releases, we're reducing the release timeframe from 3 days to just 1 day. This change will provide more certainty about when new features will be released to sites subscribed to bundled track within your organization.

For those new to Release tracks, here's a quick recap: Release tracks is a feature that allows you to control the rollout of new changes and features for Cloud Premium and Cloud Enterprise plan organizations. It determines the timing for when sites within your organization receive most new changes and features for Jira Software, Jira Service Management, and Confluence.

For each site, you have the option to receive releases continuously throughout the month via Continuous release track or receive all changes from the previous month on the second Tuesday of each month via Bundled release track.

Additionally, if you're using the bundled release track and Sandbox, we recommend setting your Sandbox site to Preview track. Please note: You need to be an org administrator to access Release tracks.

Hi @Jack Brickey ,

Yes, Standard plans will continuously receive new changes as soon as they're available to your org throughout the month.

For Cloud Enterprise with multiple instances (let's say of Jira Software), do all instances of Jira Software have to be on the same release track, or can different instances be on different release tracks. In other words is it a per instance setting or a per product or a per organization setting?

Hi @Alex Chiu this a really useful article.  I wasn't aware of the release tracks before so have already gone in and updated our Sandbox to the recommended Preview.

Thanks for sharing

So @Alex Chiu , I assume we will continue to get the prep/info emails but now they will show a single date instead of a date range, correct?

Hi @David Cowley ,

Release tracks are configured on a per-instance basis. Many of our orgs using Release tracks employ a combination of bundled for some instances and continuous for others.

Hi @Kristján Geir Mathiesen

That's correct. As an org admin, you will still receive the email as you do currently. The only improvement we're making with this change is reducing the rollout timeframe to just one day. This way, instances using bundled tracks can have better predictability regarding when changes will be released.

Does the release track option also affect release of the applications bought from the Atlassian market place? In other words, If the application that I´m using is updated, will it be updated right away or according to the timetable of the bundled track?

Antti Rivinoja September 21, 2023

And what if a bug is detected just after a bundled release? Will it be fixed in the next bundled release?

Hi @Antti Rivinoja

Thank you for your questions.

  1. Release tracks do not impact applications acquired through the Atlassian marketplace.
  2. Bundled track only manages the release of new changes or features (e.g., Dark mode in Confluence); bug fixes are promptly released as soon as they are available.

For further details on the types of changes covered by Release tracks, please refer to our support documentation.

Thank you.

Are all changes included in the preview release track notes. In other words will there be announced changes  being introduced. We need to plan for regression testing to ensure no custom functionality breaks.

Hi @Alex Chiu

I know this thread was from a year ago however I was wondering if you could let me know if there has been an issue with the release bundle for September 2024 as I haven't received my email yet and would normally receive it mid way through the previous month.

Hi @Janelle Cashmere

Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

Due to a minor internal issue, some admins may not have received the latest Bundle track emails. We will be resending these emails today and tomorrow.

In the meantime, you can check the upcoming changes in the September bundle by visiting the Release Tracks changelog at www.admin.atlassian.com.

Thank you for your understanding and we apologize for the inconvenience

Thanks @Alex Chiu

I received the Confluence email yesterday but as yet haven't received the Jira email. Hopefully it will come soon. I prefer these emails to checking the changes at admin as we supply these updates to clients and they are in a much easier format in the email to create a Confluence page.

Hi @Janelle Cashmere

It may take some time for all the emails to be redelivered to our customers. Please let me know if you haven't received yours yet.

Thank you again for your patience and understanding on this matter, and sorry again for any inconvenience this may have caused.
