RSS Feed Error java.net.SocketTimeoutException: connect timed out

Efthimios Latsaras August 12, 2019

Hello,

I wanted to add a RSS Feed from a trusted website but I get the following error:

Error while executing the macro 'rss'

java.net.SocketTimeoutException: connect timed out

If I increase the rss timeout, the same error appears.

Can someone help me with this issue?

Best regards,

Efthimios

Hello Efthimios and welcome to the Community!

Thanks for taking the time to include the error you’re having. Your error that you reported has to do with possible networking issues. We would suggest reviewing the following article to find a solution; Network and Connectivity Troubleshooting Guide.

Additionally, there are risks that come with RSS feed and we would like to make you aware of the following;

CAUTION: Including unknown HTML inside a webpage is dangerous.

HTML inside an RSS feed can contain active scripting components. This means that it would be possible for a malicious attacker to present a user of your site with script that their web browser would believe came from you. Such code could be used, for example, to steal a user's authentication cookie and give the attacker their Confluence login password.

I hope this information proves helpful.
