Macro Inside the Macro

I use Excerpt macro to keep some pieces of content easy to move, copy, and so on. On occasion I used other macros inside this Excerpt, for example Background Color inside Excerpt. On occasion, also other like Columns, and so on.
Now, with this new styling it seems to be impossible. When I try to put a macro inside Excerpt (e.g. Background Color inside Excerpt), it all is added automatically below Excerpt instead of inside Excerpt, which makes Excerpt pretty much useless.
Is there a solution to this problem or is it just as it is?
