Create form in Confluence (Cloud) to gather business requirements

masc April 16, 2021

Hi all,

we would like to create a form in Confluence to gather business requirements.

Process:

  • business department fills in Confluence form with a requirement
  • each requirement is a page in Confluence that can be worked on in future
  • template/form includes text fields, dropdowns (some like priority or department as page properties)
  • main page in confluence includes an overview of the requirements using page properties report
  • each requirement can be created as Jira ticket by development team (one requirement is an epic)

I built a form using Confluence main funcionalities without any add ons. As the template includes dropdowns when someone starts using the template there are always two steps, in the first step only dropdowns can be filled, in the second step free text.

Is this standard or can everything be filled in one step?

I tried some apps (confiforms, scaffolding forms) but in their macros I can not directly create a Jira issue and page properties don't work. Furthermore design is not as expected and (in confiforms) when a page is edited later, it creates a track record, which seems the apps are more to be used for creating forms one time and not edit it later.

Does any one have an idea if there is an app or a way to gather requirements in an easy way for business departments in Confluence (including dropdowns) and create Jira issues based on it by development team?

The other way round seems not to work (Create Jira issue an automatically have a Confluence page, see https://community.atlassian.com/t5/Jira-Software-questions/Best-way-to-create-Confluence-page-from-a-JIRA-issue/qaq-p/1386876).

Thanks!

Hi @masc and welcome to Community!

I think this app would meet your needs: Properties for Confluence Cloud. It lets you add dropdowns to a Confluence page and create dedicated forms.

Have you also considered using Jira Service Management? Business teams could fill in a form to be reviewed by your team, and it could become an epic in your usual Jira Software project.

Hope this helps!

Hi @Manon Soubies-Camy _Modus Create_

thanks for your reply! I will have a look on Properties.

We are using Jira Service Management for our helpdesk but here we are looking for a possibility in Jira Software. Especially as the Confluence page should be a "living document" as requirements can evolve on business side.
