Compass Communique: January 2023

Happy New Year to the Compass Community!

We hope your 2023 is off to a 🎉 terrific 🎉 start. The team has BIG plans for Compass (log in here if you're already signed up) as we move toward general availability, and we’re grateful that you’re with us on that journey. This month we’ll recap 2022’s key milestones, showcase an example of a fully functioning developer portal via Compass, and explore our new GitLab open source app.

This mission clearly resonated with you, and with your help we made major improvements your Atlassian developer experience platform. Log into Compass or sign-up today to see the latest enhancements this year for platform engineering teams and the developers they serve.

🔎 Understand: Catalog and map your software architecture

âś… Measure and improve: Empower best practices for software health and operational readiness

⚙️ Integrate and extend: Get started with our apps and build your own to fully customize your experience

We’re grateful for your feedback and participation, and we look forward to continuing to craft the product and improve your developer experience across these core areas.

Compass and Jira are better together with the new Jira app

We’ve re-released the Jira Software app to integrate more easily with Compass. This release brings the work that you do into the context of your software architecture, so you can seamlessly track development efforts against the components you own. The app makes it easy to link related issues to your components, so you know how much effort you’re spending on any given component. Haven’t integrated Jira yet? Feeling signs of sprawl? Learn how to identify and tame it

Countless microservices, dozens of tools, and the constant question: who can I turn to for help? Developers everywhere are feeling these growing pains. Greater DevOps team autonomy and distributed architecture have accelerated software development, but with the good comes increased complexity. Developers are asked to manage more than ever and traditional management methods can’t keep pace.

Are you feeling the effects of software sprawl? Learn from DevOps expert Andrew Boyagi as he shares 3 key symptoms and what you can do to improve your developer experience.

See how Atlassian uses Compass to improve its own DevEx

Compass makes it easy to go from sign-up to a fully-featured developer experience platform, and Andrew Boyagi shows exactly how. See how Atlassian uses Compass to tame software sprawl, run retros informed by real engineering data, and much more.

Compass GitLab app goes open source

Integrating your favorite Git tool in Compass enables you to instantly catalog components, sync CI/CD events, and view metrics in real-time in one unified, fully-extensible DevEx platform. By open sourcing the Compass GitLab app, we’re encouraging innovation through community contribution and providing a model for future apps that extend Compass. With Compass, you’re empowered to build a developer experience that’s uniquely yours. Check out the project repo and import data from your favorite SCM tool today.
