Hey everyone, Josh here from the Compass product team. Over the last month we’ve been working on making it possible for non-admin users to import components from our Bitbucket, GitHub, GitLab, and New Relic apps into Compass. Until now, if you didn’t have the admin role in Compass you could create components manually but you couldn’t access the import wizards. Bummer! Now anyone can kick off the process by clicking on the “Import components” button on the homepage, component list screen, or by clicking “Create” at the top of any screen and then selecting “Import components” from the menu.
It’s the fastest way to get started with Compass! Our importers not only create components in Compass for you but they seed them with valuable information (import URLs, component description, labels, etc.) out of the box so you have less data entry to do. And if you’re using cloud-hosted Bitbucket, GitHub, and GitLab you definitely want to use our importers because they help get events & metrics flowing in Compass with zero additional configuration* after import! This gives you metrics like deployment frequency, build success rate, and pull/merge request cycle time and allows you to see your deployment events on our activity feed all for free.
If you’re a Compass admin be sure to let your users know they can now import. We’d love to hear any feedback on the process and we’re especially interested to hear what else would help you get more benefit out of Compass faster.
