All summer long, migrated customers share their stories why they made the move to Atlassian Cloud

It’s no secret here at Atlassian that we love Cloud, and the good news is, our customers do, too! We’re always excited to hear from our on-premise customers how much they’re enjoying the move to Atlassian Cloud. So this year, for the first time ever, we’re sharing brand new customer stories all summer long (well, summer for all you Northern Hemisphere-ians 😜).

Our customers have seen such amazing results with their migration to Cloud that they wanted to share their stories with you—so read their stories and learn why they chose to make the move, how they executed a successful migration, and how their businesses have improved now that their admins and users work more productively on Cloud.

Each week, across Community, email, and our social channels, we’ll share new customer case studies, stats, quotes, and even video testimonials. So hit that “Watch” button at the bottom of the page (next to “Comment”) and keep checking back to this post every week for updates on the latest and greatest customer migration stories. And if you’ve already made the switch to Cloud, leave a comment below and let us know what you love and what others will, too!

This week, let's talk about Jira Service Management. After using on-premise deployments of Atlassian products for years, Ginkgo Bioworks was craving more storage, speed, and scalability to keep up with their growing business needs. Dave Treff, head of Digital Operations, explained the need to move to Jira Service Management Cloud:

By moving to the cloud and converging around Atlassian products for service management, we can scale non-linearly, have the metrics to support making the investments we need, and drive profitability.

Ginkgo Bioworks has offloaded maintenance, enhanced data accuracy and visibility to make ever-smarter decisions, and discovered new features that are helping the company more than triple output and halve costs each year.

Let's shine some light on a migrations story that proves innovation doesn’t have time to wait for anyone. When Lucid Software originally estimated a 6-month migration timeline, their CEO begged the question: “How can we get to Atlassian Cloud now?” Thirty days and one successful migration later, Lucid Software’s teams have more time to focus on solidifying their place as champions of their industry.

Lucid Software’s key takeaways:

  • 25% of site reliability engineering (SRE) time saved by migrating to the Cloud

  • Smoother Jira Software interface and Advanced Roadmaps help Lucid adapt to new priorities on-the-fly

David Torgerson, VP of Infrastructure and IT states, “The value that our company provides is by making features, making our product more stable, and innovating. Any amount of time that we spend maintaining internal tools is an opportunity cost lost.”

Dive in and learn how Germany’s Software AG has taken advantage of Atlassian Cloud products to strengthen security and foster innovation while keeping up with strict compliance regulations. Radoslav Danchev, VP of Collaboration, Workplace, and Support describes how traditionally opposing ideas can coexist:

"Many people think innovation and compliance are contradictory. But we have to do both of them. We drive innovation by being compliant and showing that we can adhere to regulations.”

Products like Atlassian Access provide the flexibility to ensure enterprise-wide, regulated access management in Cloud, so you can encourage innovation & meet security requirements in tandem.

The ability to collaborate with other solutions and the need to free up the intellectual capacity of their engineering teams drove Sophos through their cloud migration. By migrating to Atlassian Cloud, they moved away from being pure support to focusing on process enablement and adding value back to the business.

“Our engineers and the business aren’t being disrupted by unplanned events. Now we’re able to think about how we can make our users’ lives better, rather than just addressing stability and performance issues.” - Daniel Cave, Senior Infrastructure Engineer at Sophos

Learn how Sophos utilized our Solution Partner [Adaptavist] to take advantage of Cloud automations to help their teams run faster, manage things better, and adopt new practices.

They say sharing is caring, so Splunk has chimed in with the key to building a strong Cloud business case. Splunk’s Assistant Vice President of Strategic Programs reports Cloud has enabled their teams to reallocate their time and focus on higher value tasks directly tied to business outcomes, reducing time spent on platform maintenance by 35%.

“Immediately after the migration, we received benefits from the platform.” - David Caradonna, AVP

With Cloud, Splunk’s customers were able to hit the ground running by being able to focus on using the platform versus maintaining it. As such, they drove a faster time to market with new features and use cases and were able to deliver more meaningful outcomes.

Nationwide Building Society (NBS) shares their 6 pillars for a successful cloud migration. Learn how their admins engaged with their 8,000 users early in the process to ensure that the delivery of cloud was something that happened with them rather than to them.

“The champions network is made up of people already utilizing the tools. They’re already advocates and following best practices. …. They weren’t afraid of the change coming because they were already part of it.” - Caterina Notarbartolo, Senior Methods and Tools Architect

For National Building Society, migrating 500 projects and 300 spaces to cloud was a tall order, but by including their users in the process from day one, they were able to ease common concerns and carry the momentum of positive change into their every day work and through the wider organization.
