Adding People to the project not getting a colored circle and initials

Why when I add People to a project do some NOT get a colored circle and initials and others do? This keeps them from being recognized when I am trying to add them to a Group.

I am unsure why they may all be grey(?) but they can be changed by the individuals at id.atlassian.com
