We use the built-in approval functions for JSM projects. But for Jira Core or Jira Software, we usually have a separate status for the approvals. So when QA is done, they move the card to a different status which fires an Automation trigger and sends and email to the Business owner for sign-off.
So, in reality we have the business sign-off before it goes to QA. And if the testing is successful, QA parts it Done and deploys it. If unsuccessful, a Bug or Defect issue gets created and linked to the original card. Emails can also be done at this point if necessary.
