If you want to control all your issues, their statuses and deadlines, then this article will be very helpful for you.

Notifying you or your managers about the breached issues or reminding about the upcoming deadline may be inevitable if you need to adhere to certain time frames and you can’t break them.

Here different Jira SLA Plugins can help you to achieve these goals.

Setting time goals

First of all, you have to decide when you want some task to be completed, define time frames and set a due date. When these decisions are made, you are ready to take the second step. Now you need to set up an SLA Configuration.

One of the SLA plugins you can use is SLA Time and Report for Jira add-on. It may be used for different Jira products (Jira Software, Jira Core, Jira Service Management) and different types of projects (not only support teams).

To set time goals via SLA Time and Report for Jira, create an SLA Configuration with a necessary goal type (Time limited based or with Negotiated date), add the conditions you need, and move down to the time goals settings.

But first, let’s figure out what is the difference between these two SLA goal types. As our time goal settings will depend on the chosen SLA goal type.

  • Time limit based SLA goal type is preferred to be used if you’d like the tasks to be completed during a certain amount of hours (or minutes/days).

  • Negotiated date SLA goal type should be chosen if you want to complete the issues by the due date (or another specific date).

SLA Automated actions

After finding out how to set time goals and what SLA goal types may be used, it’s time to cope with automated actions. In other words, to set some actions which may be done after some period of time (X hours or minutes or the day you defined in time goals) to help you:

  • Remember that the task should be completed soon,
  • Notify colleagues or managers that the issue needs more attention ASAP or the SLA time goal will be breached
  • Automatically change the issue status/priority/assignee when needed.

As you can see, all these actions not only make the workflow easier and more comfortable but also help to save lots of time and effort.

In SLA Time and Report for Jira add-on you can set up the following automated actions:

  • notifying users in comments of Jira issues or via Slack;
  • changing assignee;
  • changing priority;
  • changing status.actions sla.jpg
