Things you might not know about the Atlassian Marketplace

The Atlassian Marketplace holds over 5700 apps right now 😯 . Last year marked its 10th anniversary with more than 5300 πŸ“ˆ . That means that in almost a year there have been more than 500 apps added to it (that's a lot!).

Since the Atlassian Marketplace is the place to find the apps you need for you and your team to work smarter with Atlassian, here are a few #thingsyoumightnotknow.

#1: Let's start simple: The Atlassian Marketplace is the platform where Atlassian customers can discover, purchase and try out 3rd party apps for Atlassian products such as Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket, and more. You can also find apps developed by Atlassian themselves.

#2: What type of app do you need? What Atlassian product is it for? What use case are you trying to cover?
If you have the answer to these questions, you've got half the job done. Now it's time to search in the Atlassian Marketplace.

As soon as you enter you'll find a search bar waiting for you. You can go ahead and search. But if at first try you don't succeed, you can try applying a filter to your search (located on the left side menu), where you can search through Apps that are available for specific Atlassian products (Jira, Confluence, etc), different hosting types (Datacenter or Cloud) and even sort them out by ratings, trends and more.

If you need to be pickier about your search and want to categorize your search, you got it. Different categories will help you get what you need. If you need project management tools, you got a category full of apps for that. If you need Admin tools, you got them. If you need Documentation tools, you got them too!! There's a huge list.

This will get you far in your quest for the best app (that fits your needs). Also, you should be able to find your app following these URLs https://builtwithconnect.com/ and https://builtwithforge.com/. These are alternative search engines based on how the app is built. 

#3: Downloading or subscribing to an app and running the required tests for your instance should be easy. But how do you get the correct version? And is it supported by the vendor or developer? This and more questions can be answered with ease.

By entering the App's listing, you will find all the necessary info to help you.

On the listing page you will find:
- The App's Marketplace partner.
- The Atlassian product it is for, and the range of versions that the app supports.
- Reviews from the App's users.
- Number of installs.
- Program in which the app is enrolled. (For Cloud apps, you will be able to see if the App is enrolled in the "Cloud Fortified apps" program - I'll focus on this program in other posts).
- A range of tags that will show if the app is supported by the vendor, what other Atlassian products the app works on, and other tags that might help, such as "Cloud migration assistance".

Below this information, you'll find a series of tabs that hold more useful info:
- Overview: here you'll find an overview of the app's main features and more details.
- Reviews: here you'll find every review from the users about the app.
- Pricing: here you'll find a table that will show the pricing based on the number of users in your Atlassian Product or (for Cloud apps), you'll find a cost calculator on the number of users in your Atlassian product.
- Support: all the information about the App's support should be shown here (contact information, documentation, vendor status page, etc).
- Versions: this will give you a detailed list of every version available for the app and the ability to download a specific version that best suits your needs.
- Installation: simple steps to be able to install and try this app in your instance.

And last but not least, if the App is available for different deployments (Datacenter and Cloud), you will be able to switch between those versions of the app on the selector on the right side of the tabs.

This last point might look like a shout-out post, and you are right, it is. But please, keep in mind that if these apps weren't good at ending BSM, they shouldn't have made the list.
