Namratha Peddisetty October 22, 2024

We are trying to enable sprints in a company owned project, but unable to find the option Backlog on the left hand menu. Not sure what are we missing. Any help please?

Hi @Namratha Peddisetty and welcome to the community!

Make sure you have the set the Sprint Manager permission in the permission scheme.

You can find it by going to the project setting of the company managed project and then clicking on Permissions. It should be the third row.

Oh sorry, saw now that you missed the option for "Backlog" in the left hand menu. I thought it said you couldn't see the option IN the backlog (to create / start sprint). My bad :D

Thank you Tobias. Yes, I do not see any option as backlog itself.

Ok, so here are the steps you'll want to do in order to create sprints in a company managed project:

After creating the project, make sure you have at least one Scrum board

  1. If you don't have any boards, you most likely copied the template from another project. You will then have to create a board on the left side. Select to create new board and select Scrum. Use "create with existing project" and enter the project name or key. Then you will have a board. From there, go into the backlog and press "Create sprint" on the right side.

  2. If you created the project and selected Scrum from the template creation, you should have a board with a sprint in already. And if you can't see the Create or Start button, but you can see the sprint, that means you do not have Sprint manager permissions as I mentioned earlier :)

Hi Tobias.. thank you.. Jira support team came back and said that I will have to recreate the whole project because even though it is a company owned I had used a Blank Jira project which will not have the board creation option. Thank you for checking.

Hi @Namratha Peddisetty and welcome to the Community!

To enable sprints in a company managed project, you need to set up a scrum board for your project. Under Planning, expand the list of Boards that may already be there and click Create Board to get started.

You can choose the type of board at the first step of creation: scrum or kanban. For all you need to know on board configuration, check this support article.

Hope this helps!

Hi Walter,

Thank you!

I am unable to find any option "Planning" in the project.

Hi Walter,

Thank you!

I am unable to find any option "Planning" in the project. Is it within the project?
