Need Opinion: On using third party identifier from security perspective?

Scenario here is, when calling some third party API you get ID of items from third party, should we use that id as identifier in our system.

I need some pros and cons of this.

Always maintain your own ID and store the third party id with the record...

i also agree . there should be some kind of mapping and using own ID for the corresponding 3rd party ID
