we decided to consolidate under an account with 2 seats but user cannot delete original workspace even following the destructions. there was no subscription to cancel because he started under free.
How does he delete the extra workspace? I have the paid account. his free is not removeable.

Since this is a Trello Free Workspace, there is no subscription that needs to be cancelled first, so that part is expected.
To delete the old Workspace, the user should:
1. Open the old Trello Workspace
2. Go to Workspace Settings
3. Scroll down and select Delete Workspace
Please note that the user must still be a Workspace admin for the delete option to appear.
If the option is missing, the most common reasons are:
- The user is no longer a Workspace admin
- The Workspace is in an inconsistent/orphaned state
In that case, I would recommend contacting atlassian support directly so they can verify ownership and manually remove the Workspace if needed.

when he goes to deleting his account, it just takes him to a subscription page. even though he opted for free, it put him in a trial anyway?
so I'm assuming:
1. He needs to wait the 2 weeks for the trial he didn't request to end, then possibly delete it if allowed
2. if not allowed, it will then be some orphaned/glitch and we need to actually call in?
