Did you mean:

add a checklist from another board

Merrix Administrator January 27, 2024

Hello
Thank you for helping me
I am looking for a way to add a checklist from another board to the card (without using the card link).

This rule does not work

lookup a card titled "X" on board "Y", and add the "Z" checklist from card "X" to the card

Is there a solution?

Hi @Merrix Administrator

It's Mary from Planyway power-up for Trello

To add a checklist from another board to a card in Trello without directly linking to the card, you can use a workaround that involves copying the checklist's content and creating a new checklist on your target card. Trello doesn't natively support importing or copying checklists across boards directly, but you can achieve your goal with these steps:

  1. Manually Copying and Creating a New Checklist:

    • Open the card that has the checklist you want to copy on the original board.
    • Manually copy the checklist items. This can be done by opening the checklist on the card and then highlighting and copying the text of each item.
    • Navigate to the card on the target board where you want to add the checklist.
    • Add a new checklist to this card and paste the items you copied from the original checklist. You'll need to paste each item individually if you want them to appear as separate checklist items.
  2. Using Trello's "Copy Card" Feature (If Applicable):

    • Another workaround is to copy the entire card (that includes the checklist you want) to the target board and then move or copy the checklist to your desired card. However, this method involves copying the whole card, not just the checklist.
  3. Trello Power-Ups and Third-Party Tools:

    • Consider using Trello Power-Ups or third-party tools that enhance Trello's functionality. Some Power-Ups or external tools may offer more advanced features for managing checklists, including copying them across boards or automating such processes. For example, the "Butler" Power-Up has automation capabilities that might be configured to help with tasks like this, depending on the current features and limitations.
  4. API Scripting (For Advanced Users):

    • If you are comfortable with coding, Trello's API can be used to programmatically copy checklists from one card to another, even across boards. This method requires programming knowledge and involves writing a script that uses Trello's API to fetch a checklist from one card and create a new one on another card with the same items.
