Why did trello turn into a social platform?

I am trying to create an interface to manage a new business venture and trello is creating barriers to entry.

It did not turn into a social platform. It's always been, and still is, a tool for working with other people on lists of stuff.

What "barriers" do you think you have to using Trello as a tool?
