Why can't I view Trello notifications in browser?

When I open up Trello in my browser I can see a red bell icon showing me I have notifications. I used to be able to click this and see a dropdown list of all recent notifications. However since Monday the drop down box doesn't work and it's a very thin small box that I can't view. Any tips please?

I am a mac user using Safari 10.1.2

Hm, that definitely doesn't sound right. Does the same thing happen in a different browser?
