I need to know if I can keep the files private I have for clients. I think my files are open to my partners I had invited them to use my Trello account to collaborate with me.

A member of the board will have full access except where member is an observer where there are some restrictions on "write". If you need to keep files private, I suggest you use something like Google Drive instead of uploading them to Trello.
