What is the maximum number of labels that can be used on a Trello board?

I've just had a warning pop up about maximum number of labels.  I didn't know there was a maximum.

Hey Christine,

As far as I know Trello allows for a maximum of 1,000 labels per board, though you may receive a warning at 900 labels.

That will seriously limit the way we have been working.  No one ever mentioned a limit to labels!!

The topic of the per Board Label limit is fairly obscure, but it is a known limit if you do some Googling. The topic was recently discussed again last month in this thread where @Rasmus Wulff Jensen provided a nice, offline tool called Label Manager to assist with the problem.

Just one further clarification - is the limit applied to the number of labels created on a board or to the number of labels attached to cards on a board?
