hI,
My email address has stopped working which I use for my Trello account and 2-step verification is on.They send the verification code to the old email which I have no access to. Is there another way to access my board? Thanks,
Losing access to both your email and 2FA is a "double lockout." Because Atlassian uses your email to verify ownership, recovery is difficult but possible through these steps:
1. Reclaim the email address
The email is the "master key." If you can't log in, try these options:
Work Email: Ask your former IT department to temporarily reactivate the inbox for 24 hours.
Personal Email (Gmail/Outlook): Use Google Account Recovery or the equivalent for your provider. Regaining the email is the fastest way to reset Trello.
2. Check for active sessions
Search every phone, tablet, or old laptop for an active Trello session. If you are still logged in anywhere:
Invite a new Trello account to your boards as an Admin.
Copy or export your board data to that new account immediately.
3. Contact Atlassian Support
If you were a paying user, Support can often verify you via billing records. For free users, recovery without email access is rarely possible for security reasons.
To submit a request:
Go to the Atlassian Support: Pricing, Billing, & Licensing | Atlassian.
Select Your Account > Log in issues.
Click Need more help? (you may need to click this twice).
Describe the issue. Include your old email, board names, and mention if you have billing proof.
4. Start a new account
If the account was free and the email is gone, create a new account. Ask former board collaborators to re-invite your new email address so you can regain access to shared work.
Best,
Samuil
Hello @Lorna_Crossan
Losing verification email access means Atlassian/Trello Support must handle your recovery. Look for a two-step verification recovery key and select Can’t use your phone? during login. Self-service recovery fails without that key or inbox access.
Try reactivating the old mailbox, logging in via Google, Apple, or Microsoft, or asking another board admin to invite a new account. Avoid posting personal details here. Community members cannot bypass security protocols, so I flagged this thread for official support attention.
Best,
Arkadiusz 🤠☀️
