Hello Atlassian Support,
I'm contacting you because I'm trying to delete my Atlassian account after briefly trying Trello, but the process seems to make it unnecessarily difficult to do so.
Every time I attempt to delete my account, I receive the following message:
You can't delete your account
Your account can't be deleted because:
User is last billing admin of a transaction account that has one or more active entitlements.
I then tried using the GDPR self-service deletion procedure, but this simply brings me back to the exact same message.
What makes this particularly confusing is that I have checked my account and I have no active billing, subscriptions, or paid plans connected to Trello or any other Atlassian app. I therefore have no idea what "active entitlement" is supposedly preventing me from deleting my account.
I find this quite frustrating. I no longer wish to use Trello or any other Atlassian service, I have no intention of maintaining any active subscription or entitlement, and I simply want my Atlassian account and associated personal data to be deleted.
If there is some hidden or residual entitlement preventing deletion, please remove it or provide me with clear and specific instructions for doing so. At the moment, the process feels circular: I am told I cannot delete my account because of something I cannot see or manage, while the GDPR deletion procedure leads me straight back to the same error.
Please confirm how I can permanently delete my account, or process the deletion on my behalf. Thank you.
Hi @Roberto Falcone ,
Just a note: this is a public forum, and you'll mainly find end users like me here.
And yeah... this can be a little unintuitive. 👀
*note that the text below is usually related to other Atlassian apps like Jira, Confluence etc., but it's worth checking
The error you're seeing indicates that Atlassian still considers your account to be the last billing admin for a billing account with at least one active entitlement. This can sometimes happen even when there are no paid subscriptions visible in Trello itself.
I'd first suggest checking the billing account directly at admin.atlassian.com/billing.
If a billing account is listed there, check both:
Subscriptions – to see whether there are any remaining Free or other app entitlements associated with the account.
Billing permissions – to confirm whether you're still listed as the only billing admin.
If you actually need to keep any associated subscription, you can add another billing admin under Billing permissions → Add new admin, and once they have access, they can remove your billing admin permissions.
However, since you've already checked and don't see any active subscriptions, I suspect there may be a remaining entitlement or billing account association that you cannot remove yourself.
In that case, I'd recommend reaching out to the Pricing, Billing & Licensing support team. 👈
You can select Your Account → Cancel cloud subscription, then click Need more help? and use Submit a support request. I'd include the exact error you're receiving and explain that there are no subscriptions visible under your billing account, but the entitlement is still preventing account deletion.
Their team can access the account-specific billing information that we can't see here on the Community and should be able to remove the remaining entitlement or otherwise unblock the account deletion.
Cheers,
Tobi
Hi @Roberto Falcone ,
This is what ROVO replied to me for your question. Also you can find more details in https://support.atlassian.com/trello/docs/deleting-your-trello-account/
This error occurs because of how Atlassian handles backend billing records, even for free tiers or trial services.
In Atlassian's billing system, creating a Trello Workspace, Jira/Confluence site, or Atlassian Organization automatically creates a Transaction Account with $0 "active entitlements" (even for Free plans).
As the creator or sole administrator, your account is designated as the Billing Admin for that transaction account. Atlassian's safety guardrails prevent deleting an account if it is the last remaining Billing Admin on an active transaction account, to avoid leaving an unmanaged billing entity in their system.
To unblock account deletion, you need to either delete the workspace/organization associated with the entitlement or transfer/remove the Billing Admin role.
Log into Trello.
Look at the left sidebar for any Workspaces you own or created.
Click on Workspace Settings (or navigate to https://trello.com/w/[your-workspace-name]/account).
Scroll to the bottom and click Delete this workspace?.
Repeat this for all Trello workspaces where you are listed as an admin or owner.
Log into Atlassian Administration.
Select your Organization or Site if one is listed.
Check under Products / Subscriptions:
If a free site/product exists: Go to Settings > Delete organization or cancel the product subscription.
If you want to keep the organization: Go to Billing > Billing Admins and add another user as a Billing Admin so you are no longer the last admin.
Once all workspaces/sites are deleted or the Billing Admin role is transferred:
Go to your Atlassian Account Profile.
Scroll down to Delete account and proceed with the deletion.
