Trello notifications on iMac and MacBook Air don't show badges or persistent alerts

I'm having problems with getting badges and persistent alerts. I get notifications via the bell on my Mac and my MacBookAir but I get badges only on my iPhone. I have all the settings ON in my System Preferences for badges and persistent alerts. I'm getting email but no badges or persistent alerts. (I'm calling the alerts on the screen that require an response to dismiss "persistent alerts".) Any help is appreciated. 

(I'm a Trello newbie but a long time Mac user.)

If you’re using Chrome, Safari or Firefox, your browser will show the notifications as a popup. Just click on your name in the header, and select "Settings" then select “Enable Desktop Notifications…” from the settings page. Desktop notifications can also be set in your " Account" page.
