If I powerup-ed with either OneDrive or DropBox, and I share a document (i.e. MS WORD), is this a read-only, or and they edit and changes will save to the original file?  In other words, could I synch up documents using Trello with my projects?

If you give people a link to the file that is stored remotely and allow them to edit it, then yes, they will be editing the original file.

Yes, you can synch documents with trello this way.
