Setting up Trello: What is the best way to track the status of opportunities

I have 5 active stages to which an opportunity can belong.  There are checkpoints to complete to enable an opportunity to move from a stage to the next stage. I will need to record multiple opportunities and capture additive information on any opportunity as it progresses through each stage.  I want to see my opportunities by stage.

Have you considered using label for the different stages? You can then use the filter to show only cards in that certain stage: https://help.trello.com/article/787-filtering-cards-on-a-board
