Send mail to a specific card

Peder Hansson March 17, 2022

Lets say i want to use Trello as a case management system. Each card is an ongoing case. I know its possible to send a mail to trello to create a card automatically but how can I set it up so that each card on a list or board gets an unique mail address so all communication "within that card" that comes in (attachments etc) is mailed directly into that existing card?

Hi there 👋 Christl from SendBoard here - makers of the Email for Trello Power-Up.

We bring email into Trello so that you can leverage the power of Trello and butler automations, collaborate with your team and engage with your customers all in one place.

You mentioned using Trello as a case management tool, we do too and is one of the reasons we developed Email for Trello.

Our PowerUp enables you to send and receive emails in Trello. Attachments and correspondence are linked to the correct card which you can view and reply to from within Trello. You might find our features such as merging cards, automatically sending emails, saved replies, managing contacts and customising your email address useful for case management too.

You're welcome to pop any questions over to hello@sendboard.com or simply add the PowerUp to give it a try.

Hope that helps!

Just adding on from what milynnus mentioned, you have the card's unique email address here:

If you forward or cc your messages to this address, it will populate a comment in that specific card. I'd recommend adding the card email addresses to your email contacts and naming them (e.g. the name of the case) so it's easy to find.

You should definitely check up Power Up like Trello Mail or previously called Sendboard.

Each Trello card as an email such that the contents are written as comments. Trello has email to board where it creates a new card with attachments.

Having said that, I created

(1) my own version of email to board ..that can created checklist and add start & due dates on  any list.

(2) a email to card that uses an embedded card id on the originating email such that it can now write back to the card the reply without having to disclose the card email address. Technically it can handle attachments since it is already available on (1)

Ok. So a kind of "work around" that could work but no way to mail enable a specific card directly? On ly to trigger data from one point to another.

Thanks for the idea but I really would prefer a "mail to card" directly solution to take away all posibilites for errors :-)

@Peder Hansson

You can always use the card email. It will write the email body to the comment on the card. You will have to make sure your clients use the right email address. Not sure whether it can handle attachments.

Like I said check out Sendboard or if you are using gmail …Benkoboard. My guess is that the entire email thread will be written to the card.

I might miss something here but is there a unique mail adress on each specific trello card? Can it be set or not? Not talking about the possibilty to mail to a board and automatically create a card in a specified list...
