Regarding a Markdown bug in Trello card descriptions

TrelloCom
June 29, 2026

Hello,

I am submitting a bug report to Trello Support.

If I enter the following Markdown into a card description, the entire "TEST1" section disappears.

```
- TEST1
  - aaa
  - bbb
  - ---
  - ccc
- TEST2
  - aaa
  - bbb
  - ccc
```

I suspect the "---" part is the cause.

I accidentally entered "---" into the list section while trying to draw a line, and all the notes above it vanished. Could you please investigate the cause?

A quick note: the "```" before and after the code indicate a code block and do not need to be entered. The input source consists of the lines from "- TEST 1" through " - ccc".

Thank you for reporting this! I was able to replicate on my side as well, and I've created an internal ticket with the team. This particular team doesn't have a public bug tracker, so I'm afraid I don't have a link to share with you, but for now the best workaround will be to avoid using the --- shortcut to create a horizontal rule within a nested list.

If you're still missing content from that first section, and it had previously been saved at any point, you can use the steps in this article to recover the previous description: https://support.atlassian.com/trello/docs/recovering-the-description-or-card-title-that-was-changed/

Thank you for your assistance.
You're right; I'll be careful to avoid using horizontal lines in nested lists.
Thanks!

Jumping in on this older post because I recently encountered a similar Markdown issue in Trello and found that using simple HTML tags can sometimes bypass the problem. Has anyone else tried this or discovered another workaround? I'm curious to see what others have done to keep their formatting intact. Let's get some fresh ideas flowing here!
