Prevent automation "on complete" for recurring cards

Hi everyone :)

I am using automations to move cards marked as complete to another list ("done"). This works great for most cards.

The only problem I am facing right now is how to handle my recurring cards.

If I set a card to repeat itself and then mark it as complete, it is moved by the automation (which is correct) and set incomplete immediately (which is correct as well, since it has a new due date now).

But now my card sits in my list for completed cards and is "gone" and out of my view.
I kind of need an exception, when moving complete cards, if a card is recurring.

I tried to set up an automation, that moves incomplete tasks added to my "done" list back again, but it does not catch those. Also I wanted to set up a daily automation to move all incomplete tasks from my "done" list, but that does not seem to exist.

Can anyone help me to achive this?
I really like recurring cards, but they don't do so great with my automations. ^^

Thanks in advance

Hello, how are you?

I don't know if this is what you're looking for, but as an alternative, I did the following:

In automation/rules, go to scheduled:

Then create one for each day or as needed. I'll give you an example:

Every Monday, I have to read 1 hour of x book, so my reminder would be something like this:

Trigger: every Monday at 8 p.m.

Action: create a card on the board with an expiration date of 20 minutes

Then, in rules, create an action so that when you move it to the done list, it is archived. In automation, you can also create buttons to remove them.

With this, the card is deleted and only appears on specific days. I hope I have understood and helped you.

Best regards :)

Thank you very much for your answer and help.

While I did not found an option to set en expiration time,
while searching for it, I found, that I can create a daily (or what ever timing is matching the recurring event) automation, that moves the card back from my "done" list to where it should be, since in those cases I know, that the card will be incomplete again.

So that definetly helped me :)

However it is not really feasible to always create an automation as well, whenever I want to use recurring cards and having to remember to delete it, when I want to delete/unset the recurrence.

It feels a bit like this new feature, of recurring cards, is not perfectly well integrated with automations.
Automations that work with the status of complete/incomplete cards might need options to consider the fact, that a card won't not be complete anymore, the moment it gets completed (because it is now due to another date).
