My list doesn't show any cards

In Trello (Mac desktop), my list doesn't show its 6 cards. There are shown in the browser. Is there a trick to hide and reveal cards in a list? Or is this a bug?

OK found it in an answer elsewhere. It's the X key. Apparently I set some filter.
Shouldn't there be some visual cue of a set filter?
Other question: is there a way to get to the Search panel other than with the F key?
The fact that clicking the "<" button in the Search panel gets me to the More panel suggests that there should be a "Search" option in there, but there isn't.
