Lists becoming translucent - seemingly on their own accord

Misa
September 5, 2026

It started when using a template for one of my new boards.

Now, when I create new boards, same thing is happening.

Not on my old boards.

I actually love this as a feature, if I could control and choose it to happen when I want to focus on just one list.  But it happens without my control.

Help please!

@Misa Are there any power ups enabled on your board? If so, which ones? Could you try disabling them and see if it resolves the issue?

No power ups being used on this board.  Thanks for the question.

Hi Misa, welcome to the Atlassian Community!

From the screenshot, this looks like the newer collapse/expand list behavior, rather than the lists becoming randomly transparent.

Trello supports collapsing lists so you can focus on one part of a board, and that setting is personal to your view. You can expand a list again using the small arrow next to the list title, or toggle it by hovering over the list and pressing \.

Since it only happens on newer boards, I’d also check whether those boards are being created from a template where some lists are already collapsed.

If the lists are actually becoming translucent while still expanded, though, that doesn’t look like a documented Trello setting. In that case I’d suspect a UI regression and would send the screenshot plus the affected board URL to Trello Support.

Thank you for your thoughts!  I think I know about the collapse / expand feature that you speak of.  This board has that too, and love that feature.

The lists are translucent while expanded.  I tried closing and reopening multiple times and the patterns don't seem to be connected.

Currently, a translucent list becomes opaque when I grab, drag, and relocate to a new position - either direction.  Then, if I open a card within, the moment the card closes, the list is translucent immediately.  Takes me a second to remember which list the card was on.

If I don't reposition the list, it will stay translucent even when I'm working on it, for example while renaming, or clicking triangle at top left (to expand/collapse).  Once a card opens, that card itself will be opaque while open, but as soon as it closes, list is like a ghost, leaving you questioning.

New boards - I tested by creating new boards, using no template and still experienced this pattern.

So I guess I will contact support.  Thanks again!

Can you share what browser you're using? Have you tried incognito mode? Can you confirm that this behavior only happens only _newly created boards_ regardless of whether they are created via copying or using the create menu in the header? I'd like to get to the bottom of this with you!

Aww, that is so kind of you.  I feel so supported, thank you so much!  I'm in Chrome, and I haven't tried incognito yet because I might have found a solution for now.  Not to the mystery, but to the practical issue of usability.

The previous "new" boards I had created for investigating are continuing to act in this strange manner.  They were created via "create new board - x remaining" large button displayed along with my existing boards.
Some lists were created from scratch, and some were moved over from the dysfunctional board, and they all behaved oddly.

Not sure when this changed but as of now, these previously new boards are still behaving this way, but any new boards - created just now before typing this - are behaving normally.  Wow.  Even the lists that were moved over from the funky board are no longer funky in these newly created boards.

It's easy and quick enough for me to move the rest of lists over from the funky board, so I'm all set for now.  I'm sorry if I'm leaving you scratching your head with an unsolved mystery 🥹
But for now I'll move on.  Thank you again!  🙏

And now 11 hrs later, I find that what I shared earlier no longer holds true.  😅

The latest board that I had migrated the lists to is now acting similarly to the "funky" board.

But I am discovering that in Incognito mode, the very same board is all opaque.  I guess this means I need to clear my cache?

@Misa If you don't experience the same behavior in an incognito window, clearing your cache is one possible solution. But sometimes it's a browser extension that is interfering with your board loading. You could also try disabling your browser extensions one by one to see if that makes a difference. If that is the cause, I'd be keen to know which one!

I think I solved it, with your help!

It's this one!  I had added it recently, same day things started acting funny!  But I'd added a few more at the time, also created a new board from a template (which was the exact board this behavior started happening on), and in general had just returned from a Trello hiatus, so it wasn't obvious what was causing it!

Tested it a few times by removing and adding and repeating, and every time it produces the same - funky when this extension is added.

Thank you again for your help!
