Is there a way to organise the order in which the labels appear?

Hi there
I have a lot of labels for my posts (16 in total) and they appear in the 'show more labels' drop down in the order I created them in. I'd like to group them according to a simple criterion. Is there a drag and drop option, so I have the ability to keep all related labels together?

It seems the only way to do this is to edit the existing labels, change the name and colour and then it's fine. Just wanted a simpler solution if possible.

Hi Marie,

At the moment, Trello’s standard labels dropdown follows its own built-in label order, and I don’t think there’s a native drag-and-drop option to manually group or reorder labels there.

As an alternative, you can try the Board Assistant Power-Up. It adds its own “BA Labels” button inside a card, which opens a separate labels window. There you can organize labels more flexibly, set custom sorting, and even create separate label groups with different sorting options.

Hi @Marie Alafaci,

Unfortunately, Trello doesn't currently support custom reordering of labels. However, there is a workaround that other community members have found helpful.

I noticed several people have asked about this same issue in this thread

In it, @Nicholas Denes pointed out that labels are organized by colour group — so you can use the colour assignments strategically to control the order in which labels appear in the dropdown.

You might need to scroll down a bit in that thread to find his answer 😁

Hope it helps 🙌

Thanks. I had noticed that it grouped them spontaneously. Will check out the thread.

Much appreciated.
