Is there a way to filter a LIST view?

I prefer to see my cards as a list - but it seems I cant filter anything there beside the due date? Is that correct? Ideally I d like to sort them by category at least

Can you clarify what you mean by 'list view'? Are you referring to the Table or Timeline View?

What do you bean "by category"?
In Trello you gave the Search option that you may use for filtering.

If you're looking for a more structured approach, you can try Planyway power-up which lets you structure your board by lables and memebers.
