I have a Standard subscription which states that I can have guests, but when I want to invite people to the board, it only gives me option to invite them as members. And it seems there is a limit to how many members can be on my board.

How do I invite people as single board guest without increasing my subscription cost?

Hi Jane!

When you invite someone directly to a board, they'll be added as a Member — but if they're only on that one board, Trello automatically counts them as a Single-board guest, which is free on Standard plan.

The role you choose is about access level, not billing:

  • Member — can view and edit cards
  • Observer — can only view

So don't worry about the label in the invite window — what matters for billing is how many boards they have access to. You can verify this in Workspace Settings - Members - Single-board guests tab.
