Quick question here. I manage multiple teams for multiple different branches for the company I work for. We create a new board every month for organizational purposes. That being said. I want to close the boards from last year but not lose them. If I close a board, will it eventually be permanently deleted?
Just trying to make it so each team doesn't have an obnoxious amount of boards open at one time.

No, closed boards won't be deleted automatically at any time.
Keep in mind that on a free team, you can have 10 boards open at a time though, so you may have to close a board in order to be able to re-open another.
