I am new to this app and I am torn between doing the todoist app or Trello I'm trying to figure out how to change the background color once I have established a card and when I make a list how do I control the background color on the list.

If I have a card and I accidentally create a list that I really want on a separate card how do I do that

Hi @Daniel McFarland

It's Mary from Planyway power-up for Trello

Trello and Todoist are both excellent tools for task and project management, but they approach task organization differently. Trello uses a visual board (Kanban style) where you organize tasks into cards and lists, while Todoist is more of a traditional task list manager with powerful labeling and scheduling features.

Changing Background Color in Trello

In Trello, the ability to change the background color is generally applied to the board level rather than individual cards or lists. Here's how you can change the background of your Trello board:

  1. Open the Trello board where you want to change the background.
  2. Click on "Show Menu" on the right side of the board.
  3. Click on "Change Background".
  4. You can choose a color or a pattern. Trello offers some free options, and more are available with Trello Gold or Business Class accounts.

For individual cards or lists, Trello does not offer a built-in feature to change background colors directly. However, you can use labels to add color to your cards. Here's how:

  1. Click on a card to open it.
  2. Click on "Labels" and either select a pre-existing label or create a new one. You can choose a color for your label here.

Moving a List to a Different Card

If you've created a list within a card but later decide it should be its own separate card, Trello doesn't directly allow you to convert a list within a card into a new card. However, you can manually move the information. Here's a workaround:

  1. Copy the list content: Open the card, select the text in the list you want to move, and copy it.
  2. Create a new card: In the appropriate list on your board, click "Add another card" at the bottom of the list.
  3. Paste the list content into the new card: Give the card a title and paste the list content into the card description or as a checklist within the new card.
  4. Delete the original list: Go back to the original card and delete the now-redundant list.

Converting List Items into Separate Cards

If you have a checklist within a card and want to convert each item into its own card:

  1. Open the card with the checklist.
  2. Hover over a checklist item, and you'll see a button to the right that looks like a card with an arrow. Clicking this will convert that checklist item into a separate card.

If you're willing to get more visibility across Trello boards, I'd recommend you to try Planyway calendar and timeline for Trello.
