How can I set the Watch feature to automatically default to unchecked?

Whenever we create a new card or board and add members to it, the default is set for them to "Watch" the card, and they get every single update on the card even if it isn't relevant to them. I'm trying to find out if there is a way for me to set the system up in a way that sets "Watch" to unchecked automatically.

Thank you Dreamsuite Mike. I'm going to test this out next week. I've never used Automation Rules before so I did some research and found some YouTube videos and support documentation that I think will help. Grateful for your assistance!
