Hi! A few days ago I noticed that a card count was showing on the top of all my lists. I found an option in Board - Settings to deactivate it and it worked for a day or so. But now the number is back and there is no option to remove it. I find it really disruptive. Is there a way to turn it off?

I don't know if it matters, but I'm using Spanish as my UI display language.
Thanks a lot! I hope someone can help!
Hey @Lucas Winne, @Arkadiusz Wroblewski @nICk Seah , :)
Hope you are doing well,
I’ve checked in with our engineering team to get the full story on that missing setting. It turns out that during the initial launch of this feature, we ran a brief experiment to see whether users preferred an "off" switch. After reviewing the data, the team decided to move forward with the feature as a permanent part of the experience, which is why that toggle is no longer in your settings.
I know it can be a bit jarring when an option you're used to seeing disappears, so I hope this helps clarify things!
Thanks
Thanks for letting us know ❤️

@Rishabh S thanks for the answer. It clarifies the situation.
But it's still really disruptive for me that the "off" switch for this feature is not available. I think that if you would run a longer experiment you would encounter that a very large group of users needs to toggle this off.
Is there a way to make a petition for the engineering team to consider re enabling the off switch.
Thanks again!
Lucas

BAD MOVE on removing the ability to disable the card count. I don't believe that "users" voted to remove the option to turn that off! The card count is much more disruptive than a setting that you don't even see unless you look for it. That card count significantly reduces the amount of space available for a list title before wrapping, particularly for lists that have a lot of cards. Please tell them to either remove the card count, or provide an option to turn it off. Why would they deliberately force card count on users that don't want it, when obviously they had already incorporated a setting to turn it off. SMH.

Hi @Rishabh S,
Thanks for the update and clarification. However, I too, am having my doubts regarding why people would have preferred NOT having the option to toggle ON / OFF card count. It could have been that the sample size was small, or like @Lucas Winne suggested, the duration wasn't long enough to iron out an accurate representation of the user preference data.
One key point to note is that the card count that is currently being "force-shown" at the top of lists, counts everything, including Dashcards. Is that what users want?
At least for me, that's definitely not how I will want it as I use lots of dashcard counter cards in my lists, and I'm sure many other users do as well.
Dashcards Add-on already gives me a large visual count of my cards with a nice background on it, setup exactly how I want it to count my cards in my list (to exclude all seperator cards). So having a forced card count show up at the top of every list not only clutters up space programmatically and visually, but also provides a misrepresentation of the actual number of task cards in the list. Some may prefer counting everything, including dashcard cards, and some may not. Since that is the case, why not simply leave the toggle option available, so that users can have the option to reflect / not reflect information that could confuse their team? The toggle already existed previously, so I believe its simply a matter of rolling back on that particular code.
Hope this can be brought up to the engineering team again for their review and consideration to rollback on this small but impactful decision, since i believe the goal of Trello is really to make task tracking as simple and seamless as possible, which it already was, just before this change.
Best regards,
Nick

Hi @Rishabh S
Is there any possibility that you will reconsider the toggle off option for the card count default on lists?
Thanks

Yes, PLEASE provide a toggle off option! The card count is terribly disruptive and messes up my header spacing on each list. If others like it that way, so be it.... but please give those who don't want it the option to turn it off!

@RBB213 @nICk Seah @kes3963 I found a reddit thread with a Chrome extension that does the trick
https://www.reddit.com/r/trello/comments/1tvb7dc/can_we_turn_off_the_new_card_counts/
It's not really fair to be using an extension to toggle off some ugly feature, but I like trello...

Thanks so much for sharing the extension @Lucas Winne!
It worked like a charm without disrupting anything else!
Totally agree with you that it's absolutely frustrating that an extension is needed just to toggle something which already existed previously. Who knows, perhaps from a broader perspective, the toggle might appear in Trello premium? 😉

I am facing the exact same issue here. i have even created a brand new board and "0" shows up at the top of the list before i even add any card to it.
I have disabled ALL power-ups. Disabled ALL Chrome Extensions as well, and they still exist there. I also want to remove them as it makes my board look more messy. How can we do it?? I notice that this only surfaced suddenly the past few days.
note: i've searched through every option and setting i can find on my trello board and account, but there is not a single option that allows me to toggle OFF that card count number. If i remember correctly, there used to be such an option available, but it no longer exists.
Atlassian please help!!

Hello @Lucas Winne
Those numbers are Trello's list card counts, which usually appear when a filter is active. Try pressing x, f (to clear), or q on your keyboard to remove any persistent filters that might be sticking around.
If that doesn't work, test the board in an incognito window to rule out interference from browser extensions or Power-Ups. Since the setting toggle disappeared, this might be a recent Trello UI rollout.

Thanks for you answer. No filters are applied. I also tried an incognito window and the card count is still there.
Since it appeared in all the lists accross my boards I'm inclined to think it's a Trello UI rollout, but there is now toggle off option.
You are not seeing the card count in all of your lists?
Thanks,
Lucas

I'm experiencing the same exact thing as of today. There's no option to toggle this off and it's extremely annoying to see the numbers on every list. I followed all the suggested steps but still nothing has changed. I don't have any Power-ups, extensions or filters added. If it's a new UI rollout, then they really need to provide a way to toggle it off for those who don't want it.

I flagged this post for Atlassian.
There is too much guessing involved with this kind of issue, and only Atlassian can check it properly from their side. They should be able to provide you with more specific answers.
Best,
