Guest or Admin?

Sonja Weichsler

Dear Team

I am an admin for Trello for over a year now and according to the settings I still am. This morning I wanted to copy a board and I couldn`t because it stated:

"You cannot create a board in this workspace because you are a guest. Please choose another workspace or contact your workspace admin."

I have a presentation later this morning and need to copy boards for that. What can I do?

Thank you!

Sonja

Hello @Sonja Weichsler

This error happens because Trello sees you as a Workspace guest rather than a full member. Being an admin of a specific board lets you manage that board, but it doesn't grant you the Workspace-level permissions required to create or copy boards into that space.

As a quick workaround, copy the board into a different Workspace where you have full access, or quickly spin up a new temporary one. Afterward, have a Workspace admin update your role from guest to member on the Workspace members page, and double-check that you aren't logged into a duplicate account.

There are similar Community cases where the root cause was the same distinction: the user was a board member/admin, but still only a Workspace guest.

Best,

Arkadiusz🤠
