Card title changing to URL when using checklist convert car button

I've set up the following card button automation on my Trello board:

'convert all the items in checklist "Q3: Key Results" into linked cards'

However, if I run the button automation more than once (when a new item is added to the checklist) it changes existing converted card titles to a URL. [Screenshots attached]

I assume this is happening because I am running the card button automation more than once. 

Questions:

1. is there a way to stop this from happening?

2. is there a way to revert the cards with URLs back to their card titles? 

3. is there a way for new checklist items to automatically be converted into cards?

I will jump to answering question 3 because it eliminates the need for the button...

You can use the automation:

when an item not starting with "https://trello.com/c" is added to a checklist, convert the item to a linked card in list "List 1"

Substitute "List 1" with the list on your board

Note: The "not starting with "https://trello.com/c" protects against the very issue you were having where it turns it into a link with the URL as the checklist item name
