Can fields be removed from cards which are automatically copied to other boards?

We have a rule where cards automatically get copied to other boards at certain stages of the process - I've managed to automatically delete the data not needed to be copied but I can't delete the fields. I've notice if you copy a card manually, not copying the fields IS an option - how can I make this happen when cards are copied via a rule?

You are correct in your observations since Trello will created the CF definitions on the destination board if the field definition are not present. However these are new definitions and are board specific. I found alternative is to create a new card and bring over the CF you want to keep via a key/value pair on the description. It is a bit tricky but it can be done.
